分類に関するメモ：Hoek & Chihara (2000) は，ヒラシオグサ属（Willeella）をシオグサ属（Cladophora）に含めると共に，ヒラシオグサ（W. japonica）をナンカイヒラシオグサ（C. ordinata）の異名同種（シノニム）としました。Boedeker et al. (2016) はヒラシオグサ属を独立の属として再評価しました。また，W. japonicaについて，南アフリカ産のW. ordinataとは生育深度や幅が異なることを指摘しています。本サイトでは，日本産のサンプルを用いた分類学的研究が進むまで，暫定的にW. japonicaをW. ordinataの異名としました。W. ordinataの和名は，吉田ら（2005）に従い，「ヒラシオグサ」としました。
